My first gate! A little progress at a time...

Here are a couple of pictures of a gate I just built. I used recycled pressure treated wood. I'm planning to finish painting the rest of the gate this weekend (Rustoleum flat black.) I haven't seen pressure treated wood painted before, but I like how it looks. I might change to a chocolate brown color. What do you guys think? The hinges, latch and deck screws came from Home Depot (cost = $20). Before the gate, the back yard wasn't accesible from this side of the house. It was really frustrating to have to walk all the way around the house to get to the back yard. Now that the gate is in, I'm planning to spend more time dressing up the side yard area more. I'd like to have a path leading to the gate with flower beds on either side. It's a shady area. Any suggestions for some nice plants??? You can see the back yard is another work in progress for us. I'm battling english ivy there. This is Jenny and my first home. We've been here a little over a year and a half working hard to take down trees, pull up creeping charlie and english ivy and slowly collecting plants and ideas for what we would like to do. Happy Gardening! Bill

Bill, I think you did a wonderful job on the gate. we have to walk around the house too. I didn't plan ahead and Have now blocked the way by two Japanese maples. If I were to put up a gate, eventually you couldn't get thru for the trees.--Randy
